Ramayana: Divine Loophole by the Pixar animator, Sanjay Patel.
I first became aware of Sanjay Patel's work when I picked up a copy of 'The Little Book of Hindu Deities' at a comic fair in Bristol many moons ago. And I loved it! I have an interest in other culture's mythologies and The Little Book of Hindu Deities managed to merge this interest with my love of illustration perfectly. The book was simply laid out, with a brief summary on a selection of Hindu's greatest known deities, each with an engagingly awesome illustration.
Ramayana: Divine Loophole continues in this vein, with Sanjay Patel attempting (and greatly succeeding)! to graphically retell the epic Hindu legend of the blue-skinned prince of Rama - a reincarnation of the god, Vishnu.
Patel succeeds in condensing down one of the most greatest pieces of Indian literature into something comfortingly simple which flows easily from page to page and makes it a story that anyone can enjoy. And obviously, the illustrations are as epic as Rama's tale:
The composition and the colours... ahhh, they're just amazing! Plus the character design, woah!
The book also includes a few pages from Patel's sketchbook:
So as you can see, awesome book. I'd love to see a similar book on Japanese or Chinese mythology!

So there we go! My apologies for not posting some of my own work up here for a while. I'm currently eye-meltingly busy in Splinter, and I'm also working on a bulk of card designs that I hope to see in my Etsy Shop in the future - but I will be posting a little peek of these designs in the near future. One clue as to what they may feature: WOOF!
