Just a little illustration I did a while ago to fit in with a pre-existing style. It was interesting/refreshing to work in such a clean style!

You Is Kind
Long time no see! Ta-da! I'm back after a prolonged hiatus!
I have been tinkering away with many things during my momentary lapse from the blogger-verse. But I shan't overwhelm with a gigantic binge of everything I've done, I shall go slow and steady! So don't recoil in fear just yet!
So firstly, during my time away I went on holiday to the great land of America! Wa-hoo! I saw DisneyWorld and everything, but thats for another blog post! Whilst lazing in the Florida sun, I managed to devour several books, one being 'The Help' by Kathryn Stockett. And I loved it. I'm pretty stubborn over things that are popular and go out of my annoying way not to sample them, but theres a reason things are popular and 'The Help' just blew my socks off.
So I came back from America knowing that I wanted to create a book quote print themed on 'The Help' and set to work doing just that:
I wanted to make a warm, homely print, reflecting the weather and place of Jackson, Mississippi (where the book is set); so I went for the hand-drawn approach and dug out the old colour pencils!
I researched and surrounded the words of the quote with various objects relevant to the text so anyone who has read or watched the book/film can get something from it.
So thats one book quote that I have been working on, I am hoping to get it printed soon, but for now here is a sneak peak of the finished thing:
I have lots more things to talk about, so watch this space over the next week or so! Meanwhile, my Etsy shop still lives if anyone fancies perusing a selection of geeky cards and prints. PLUG! Yes, so there we go!

A couple of books
Oh deary me, I have not written in a while! I'm afraid I have been rather busy with a variety of annoying things, so just to break up the lack of blog waffle, here are a couple of books I saw many months ago that I thought looked pretty darn cool.
In the forest by Anouck Boisrobert and Louis Rigaud: Lovely illustration and striking paper mechanics combine to make this a very striking and prolific read!

All of these illustrators/authors have some awesome work featured on their websites - which I have rather coincidentally linked to above, so you should go have an oggle at them!
I am currently working on making a whole big chunk of stock to put up in my Etsy shop, so I will update you all on what I'm up to as I go along; and then expect a big BAM!!1! In which all this new stock will feature in my shop! Woah! I'm slightly scared now.

Divine Loophole by Sanjay Patel
I recently got round to reading another book I received for Christmas:
I first became aware of Sanjay Patel's work when I picked up a copy of 'The Little Book of Hindu Deities' at a comic fair in Bristol many moons ago. And I loved it! I have an interest in other culture's mythologies and The Little Book of Hindu Deities managed to merge this interest with my love of illustration perfectly. The book was simply laid out, with a brief summary on a selection of Hindu's greatest known deities, each with an engagingly awesome illustration.
Ramayana: Divine Loophole continues in this vein, with Sanjay Patel attempting (and greatly succeeding)! to graphically retell the epic Hindu legend of the blue-skinned prince of Rama - a reincarnation of the god, Vishnu.
Patel succeeds in condensing down one of the most greatest pieces of Indian literature into something comfortingly simple which flows easily from page to page and makes it a story that anyone can enjoy. And obviously, the illustrations are as epic as Rama's tale:
The composition and the colours... ahhh, they're just amazing! Plus the character design, woah!
The book also includes a few pages from Patel's sketchbook:
So as you can see, awesome book. I'd love to see a similar book on Japanese or Chinese mythology!
If you are interested in Sanjay Patel's work, you can take a gander at it over HERE.
So there we go! My apologies for not posting some of my own work up here for a while. I'm currently eye-meltingly busy in Splinter, and I'm also working on a bulk of card designs that I hope to see in my Etsy Shop in the future - but I will be posting a little peek of these designs in the near future. One clue as to what they may feature: WOOF!
