Medieval Defences Illustration

Hello there.
Quite a few months ago now, working at Splinter Design, I created an illustration to appear on a public panel in Rhuddlan, Wales.
The panel informs visitors about a piece of land in the town that is believed to have been the site of the 'walls' of the Edwardian Borough. My illustration attempts to make a reconstruction of what the defences of the town may have looked like.

Seymour Science

As I went missing for a couple of months, I never had a chance to mention some storyboarding I worked on at my place of work, Splinter Design.
The aforementioned storyboarding was for a set of animations focussing on Key Stage 1 Science that are now featured on the BBC Bitesize website! The animations introduce Seymour Science and his gang of science-savvy friends; creating their own homemade videos explaining various scientific topics such as day & night and electricity (to name a few).

My job was to storyboard each animation with the help and brains of our Head of DigitalJon Raffe. So heres just a few shots of what we came up with.

The spectacular illustration work was done by the even more spectacular The Boy Fitz Hammond and the eternally slick animation was performed by the suaveChris Day.

You can see more of where these came from over at the BBC Bitesize website, in the Key Stage 1 Science section OR over on Splinter's Vimeo account.

Harry Potter Prints

Something else I am currently working on is a series of prints featuring quotes from the Harry Potter books. My goal is to make at least one for each book, and I am re-reading them all to fully submerse myself into the wizarding world. I'm up to 'The Prisoner of Azkaban' at the moment, so I've got a while to go yet!

I have completed a quote for 'The Philosopher's Stone' and 'The Chamber of Secrets', here are a few 'Work In Progress' shots for you to take a gander at:

Final Pieces:

I found it fun to work with a more limited colour palette and attempting to be more simplistic in my approach.
So hopefully these will be printed and put in the old Etsy Shop in the next few months - alongside a few more quotes too! Hooray!

St Georges Hall

Just a little illustration I did a while ago to fit in with a pre-existing style. It was interesting/refreshing to work in such a clean style!

You Is Kind

Long time no see! Ta-da! I'm back after a prolonged hiatus!

I have been tinkering away with many things during my momentary lapse from the blogger-verse. But I shan't overwhelm with a gigantic binge of everything I've done, I shall go slow and steady! So don't recoil in fear just yet!

So firstly, during my time away I went on holiday to the great land of America! Wa-hoo! I saw DisneyWorld and everything, but thats for another blog post! Whilst lazing in the Florida sun, I managed to devour several books, one being 'The Help' by Kathryn Stockett. And I loved it. I'm pretty stubborn over things that are popular and go out of my annoying way not to sample them, but theres a reason things are popular and 'The Help' just blew my socks off.

So I came back from America knowing that I wanted to create a book quote print themed on 'The Help' and set to work doing just that:

I wanted to make a warm, homely print, reflecting the weather and place of Jackson, Mississippi (where the book is set); so I went for the hand-drawn approach and dug out the old colour pencils!

I researched and surrounded the words of the quote with various objects relevant to the text so anyone who has read or watched the book/film can get something from it.

So thats one book quote that I have been working on, I am hoping to get it printed soon, but for now here is a sneak peak of the finished thing:

I have lots more things to talk about, so watch this space over the next week or so! Meanwhile, my Etsy shop still lives if anyone fancies perusing a selection of geeky cards and prints. PLUG! Yes, so there we go!
