Japan - Hiroshima (Day 1)

Day 3 of the tour, and we say goodbye to Koyasan, and use various methods of transport and make our way back to Osaka to catch our first bullet train (or shinkansen) to deliver us to Hiroshima.
Heres a couple of shots of random graphics-y stuff I found and the interior of the bullet train - it was very comfy and spacious!

After dropping our bags off at the hotel, we went for a wander around the nearby Shukkeien Garden, a beautiful park-like place. You pay a small fee to enter, which is well worth the £2 or so, to see such tranquil scenery!
The garden was made in 1620, and features many aspects of a traditional Japanese garden. The Shukkeien suffered a lot of damage from the nuclear bomb dropped on Hiroshima in the Second World War, but it was re-constructed and is as you see it today.
We were lucky enough to catch some of the cherry blossom trees just starting to bloom, which you can see below.

(Some koi fish plotting to take over the world I think!)

We also had a quick look at Hiroshima Castle (it was unfortunately too late for us to go in).

So then. It was dinner time. We went to a food place sort of similar to what I've heard Teppanyaki is like (food getting cooked on a hot griddle and served to you and such), but we went for Okonomiyaki - which is a dish well known in Hiroshima!
I'm afraid the memory of what I ordered that evening has already faded, all I know was there was meat, cabbage, noodles, various other things, and a very nice okonomiyaki sauce accompanying it! But never fear, having looked on the old Wikipedia, I'm told that Okonomiyaki is a Japanese savoury pancake served with a whole bunch of whatever you choose ("okonomi" means "what you like"). So there we go, I'm learning even after returning from Japan! Go learning!
Anyhoos, PICTURES!

Next blog post will be about the Hiroshima Peace Park and Miyajima Island (which had a giant torii gate and deer roaming all over the place)!

EXTRA: If you want to learn how to make okonomiyaki, theres a cool YouTube channel (which you may have heard of) called Cooking with Dog (don't worry, its not what you think!), you can watch the video here: How to make Okonomiyaki or just here:
